Note: The learning module comes with a Microsoft Excel Certification Exam Voucher that has two attempts to pass the exam. If any learner in the module does not pass on their first attempt and needs to re-take the exam, a make-up exam can be scheduled with John Wimmer outside of the module time on a case-by-case basis. The exam will be administered remotely using your personal computer (preferred computer operating system is Windows).

Regardless of your professional work, a must-have skill in the workforce is the ability to manage data for insights, with Microsoft Excel as the leading software used by companies. In this course, you will learn how to navigate withing Excel to build a spreadsheet, create use formulas and functions for business calculations, how to create/use tables to improve spreadsheet effectiveness, and how to display your data visually. The course will include pre-recorded examples for learners to solve and the instructor will be available weekly on Zoom to review key concepts and answer questions. Following the course, learners have the opportunity to take the Microsoft Excel Associate Certification Exam.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

• Manage worksheets and workbooks
• Create spreadsheets and business templates
• Write basic formulas and functions needed to perform business calculations
• Create charts and visual representations of data
• Create/modify basic tables
• Filter and sort data within tables and Excel ranges
• Use Conditional Formatting to highlight key aspects of your data
• Combine theory and formulas to real-world job applications
• Complete a practice exam to conform readiness for the Microsoft Excel Certification Exam
• Take the Microsoft Excel Certification Exam through the exam voucher included in the course price

About the Instructor

John Wimmer is a Lecturer in Management Information Systems at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University. He brings years of experience as an IT leader to Elon NEXT serving as Chief Information Officer for 13 years at Xanterra Parks & Resorts. He has also worked as a senior executive at companies like MICROS Systems, Kiawah Island Resort, The Homestead Resort and Centra Health.
